Contributing to open source does not always mean building a major feature. A documentation improvement, bug report, test, code review, or small pull request can be a useful contribution.
In this hands-on session, we will explore how to get started with contributing to CNCF projects.
We will cover:
- How to find a CNCF project that matches your interests
- How to find `good first issue` and `help wanted` opportunities
- How to read a project's contribution guidelines
- The basic workflow from issue to pull request
- What makes a useful open-source contribution
- How to continue participating after your first contribution
We will also walk through a real CNCF project and look for contribution opportunities together.
Who should attend: Software engineers, DevOps engineers, SREs, platform engineers, students, and anyone interested in making their first open-source contribution.
No previous CNCF contribution experience is required. Bring your laptop and GitHub account if you want to follow along.
