"Feeling & Knowing -- Making Minds Conscious" Book Review
Details
In this meetup we will go over ideas in the book "Feeling & Knowing" by Antonio Damasio. It is a fascinating and short read about the origins of feelings (hint: they don't necessarily start in the brain) and how the sense of self is inscribed in the constant succession of images and maps that are generated by the brain. Although we encourage you to read the book, if you are too busy, we've got you covered as we plan to put together some notes about the book and have an overview, and you can read it later if desired.

“Damasio’s concise, precise, and lucid prose effectively convey the core insight he has distilled over decades (2): that affect—encompassing, emotions, feelings, motivations, and moods—is central to understanding what we do, how we think, and who we are.”

"In recent decades, many philosophers and cognitive scientists have declared the problem of consciousness unsolvable, but Antonio Damasio is convinced that recent findings across multiple scientific disciplines have given us a way to understand consciousness and its significance for human life."
