Frog Mountain

Details

For those not available on Wednesday for Tracy’s hike or perhaps prefer a climb of 2166’ vs. 3800’ here’s another option. The trail up Frog Mountain is only about 5 years old, a relative baby in terms of trail age. A moderate but steady climb gets you to the top of Frog Mountain with its fabulous 360° view. There is no water on this sometimes exposed trail so be sure to take all you need although Thursday’s weather is not supposed to be too hot. The access road should be drivable by pretty much any car but watch for potholes.

-Distance: 7.4 miles (round trip)
-Elevation Gain: 2166 feet
-Pass required: None required

-Trailhead privy: This depends on your definition of privy. There is a “wilderness toilet” about 100’ up the trail from the trailhead. Wilderness toilet means a wooden box to sit on out in the open although I would guess there are probably bushes for some privacy. Bring your own TP. You pass a couple of campgrounds on the road to the campground, Troublesome Creek and San Juan and they both have vault toilets if you prefer that option. These campgrounds are 15 and 10 minutes from the trailhead respectively.

Meet at the Frog Mountain trailhead at 8:45 AM, ready to hike at 9:00 AM.
