Hoypus Point--Update
Details
Hello, Friends! Let's keep rolling through November with this pre-Thanksgiving lowland hike. Hoypus Point is lovely, quiet part of Deception Pass State Park, with old growth firs and cedars, fern groves galore, and even a shoreline stroll. It's one of my favorite happy-place easy-pace hikes. Park in the big parking lot to the right and uphill from the gate, then we will follow the road from the gate along the shore of Cornet Bay for a ways out to the old ferry landing. We will backtrack about 1/8 mile to head into the forest and amble through the trails, including a couple of miles on an old grassy logging road, for a total of about 7.5 miles, 600 ft elevation gain. Hoypus Point trails are sort of concentric loops, and easy to keep adding on another loop to get more miles. Not much elevation gain, but we will get some ups and downs. And because it's deep forest, this time of year, even when it's a dry day it's a wet trail. I've chosen trails that are not steep or slippery, but still plan for muddy boots. Around 3 miles in there's a large clearing where we can stop for lunch/snacks. (There aren't really any logs here, so bring something to sit on.)
Directions: On the north end of Whidbey Island, take Cornet Bay Road to the end. Park uphill in the big lot where the road ends at a closed gate.
Restrooms available at the boat launch.
Discover Pass Required.
As many people who want to join. These are very quiet trails and a large group will not bother anyone.
Light rain will not cancel the hike. Heavy winds will.
Meet at 9. Hit the trail 9:15.
Well-behaved dogs on leash or in backpack (Hazel!) are welcome. I am not bringing my dog.
If anyone wants to put this loop in their map app, text me and I'll send it to you. (907)240-0463
