Cape Horn Clockwise Loop Sunday Run

Details
Join us on Sunday, August 24th for one of the "easier" Gorge runs. We will head out to Cape Horn, which is on the Washington side of the Gorge (Hwy 14). This area is kind of the Crown Point (w/Vista House) equivalent on the WA side, and features equally impressive views (better in my opinion) of the Gorge looking east.
More information about the area from the Cape Horn Conservancy...

Meet: We'll park and meetup at the main trailhead, which is off of Hwy 14 and Salmon Falls Rd., at 8:50am. No parking pass is required. Note there is very little to no cell reception at the trailhead. Please update your RSVP if you can't make it.
Run: We will leave promptly at 9am and go clockwise - reverse from what we typically do. The loop is approximately 7 miles, with 1250 feet of climbing. 1.5 mile road section at the beginning, and then 5.5 miles on trail.
Difficulty: This is a moderately difficult trail run, rated π©π©π© (3/5 donuts). It's an easier Gorge run, with some steep and rocky/rooty sections. See below...
π© - Leif Eriksonish (flat, little elevation gain)
π©π© - Most NWTR Forest Park runs (5-7 miles, 500-1000 ft ups)...little experience necessary
π©π©π© - Easier technical Gorge/Mtns (7-12 miles, 1000-2500 ft ups)...a bit more experience may be necessary
π©π©π©π© - More technical, longer, steeper (12-20 miles, 2500-5000 ft ups)...seasoned trail runner, with much more experience in the mtns
π©π©π©π©π© - Most difficult and technical (20+ miles, 5000+ ft ups)...marathon, ultra-runners only

Time: Should take anywhere from 1.5 to 2 hours depending on size of group, stops, trips and falls, animal encounters/squirrels, etc.
Pace: Easy going/talking pace, similar to the average Forest Park run. No rush and no hurry to get to the finish. If you think you might be walking a good portion then please have/download a map prior, in case you get separated.
Bring: Water, snack, camera device thingy.
Post-run possibilities: Coffee, Beer, both can be had in Washougal and Camas for those interested.
Hope you can make it out! Contact me with questions. π
