The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin
For our next intersectional feminist book club meeting, we’ll be reading N.K. Jemisin’s award-winning novel The Fifth Season, the first book in The Broken Earth trilogy. Jemisin’s powerful storytelling weaves together themes of oppression, survival, motherhood, and resistance within a world shaped by environmental catastrophe and systemic injustice.
Through its richly imagined world and complex characters, The Fifth Season invites us to reflect on power, privilege, and what it means to build community amid destruction. As always, we’ll bring an intersectional lens to our discussion, exploring how race, gender, class, and identity shape both the story and our own interpretations of it.
Join us for an evening of deep conversation, thoughtful reflection, and collective imagination. Whether you’ve read Jemisin before or this is your first time entering the Stillness, all are welcome.
Together, we hope to build community, amplify marginalised voices, and imagine more just futures, one page at a time.
The book club will be hosted at 12pm on the 11/JAN/2025 at:
Alchemista Coffee Potion, 4 St Gregorys Alley, Norwich NR2 1ER
