Feminist Book Club - Norwich - July
Details
For July we’re pulling no punches as we read:
White Feminism by Koa Beck
A sharp, necessary takedown of the glossy, corporate brand of feminism that promises empowerment while quietly reinforcing the same old hierarchies.
Beck traces how a feminism built around individual success, the girlboss grindset and the boardroom-as-liberation fantasy, leaves most women behind. Beck reminds us that the oppression people face be it on the grounds of race, class, immigration status, ability or sexuality, don’t magically vanish because someone pink washes a PR campaign by slapping “feminism” onto.
Beck doesn’t just critique, she names names, charts the history, and shows how white-centered feminism has overshadowed and undermined the movements built by women of colour for generations.
This is a call to get uncomfortable, ask better questions, and reclaim feminism as a collective, intersectional struggle rather than a lifestyle brand. If you’re ready to challenge the narratives that dominate mainstream discourse, and imagine something far more liberatory, this one’s for you.
Bring your honesty, your solidarity, and your willingness to dig deeper.
