The Moon landings never took place and anyway the earth is flat... And did you know that vaccines cause autism. Just a handful of conspiracy theories that are persistent despite incontrovertible evidence that discredits them.

Conspiracy theories and beliefs can be fascinating and amusing, but also puzzling and concerning. This talk will give an overview of the subject and the various psychological factors and processes involved in why people hold no to and perpetuate such theories.

We are pleased to introduce Ged Bailes, a Consultant Forensic Clinical Psychologist, who worked in NHS forensic and secure services for over 30 years. He is also an adviser to the UK police on hostage and crisis negotiation. For the last 8 years his work has been in relation to extremism and counter-terrorism.

He will be taking us through this fascinating subject with some surprises along the way.
