All the fires in the Marble Mountains are out, however, the Happy Camp Complex (27,161 acres, 45% contained) and the Smith River Complex (83,974 acres, 8% contained) are both going strong and continue to adversely affect air quality. Additionally, that section of the Klamath National Forest remains closed. Therefore, I have decided to postpone our Marble Mountain event until next year.

The Marble Mountains are just north of the Trinity Alps in Siskiyou County, near Ft. Jones. This is an incredible hike with unbelievable wildflowers, stunning views, and beautiful lakes. Many of my backpacking friends claim that this is the best backpacking in California—my experience is that the Marbles are the closest I have ever come to what it was like backpacking in the Sierra in the 60’s. Truly epic!

Access to the trailhead at Lover's Camp is on a mostly paved road. We will camp at Lover’s Camp Friday night then start our hike early Saturday morning. This adventure is an out-and-back trip and covers approximately 6.2 miles each way. The planned camp is near a collection of three lakes and there are plenty of good sites at or near all them. And, depending on how early we get to and set up camp, we can explore, swim, or hike some or all of the Sky Rim loop.

THIS EVENT IS CURRENTLY FULL.

The campground fee for those attending is $5 per person. For this event I am asking everyone to pay their fair share in advance. Place yourself on the Waitlist and, when a spot opens, I will provide payment information. As soon as I receive your payment I will confirm your reservation and move you to the Going list.

You should expect warm days and nights a bit cooler as the calendar marches to fall. That said, on my first trip to the Marbles it was wickedly hot (100+ degrees each day), so check the weather and pack and dress accordingly.
