Lassen Volcanic Park: Paradise Meadows

Details
This is a great trail to escape the September heat while exploring a beautiful area of the Lassen Volcanic Wilderness. Typically, there are lovely wildflowers--even in September. And Paradise Meadows is the headwaters for Hat Creek, one of the premiere fly fishing streams in the world. This is a great trail if you are looking for solitude in nature, and I have yet to be there when I have not seen deer abound!
Once I know how many people are going (and the permits come available), I will collect the money and procure the Wilderness Permit. When we buy as a group, the Wilderness Permits for Paradise Meadows cost $6 per person and include parking passes. In addition, I plan to book a campsite for Manzanita campground for the night of September 5th. The campsite can accommodate six people at a cost $26. If enough adventurers sign up, we can try for a second site. Worst case scenario: you can pull a Wilderness permit for Friday night, and hike in a short distance on the Terrace Lake trail (though you cannot camp at any of the lakes) and we will meet you on Saturday morning.
Either way—campsite or short hike—on Saturday we will break camp, set-up the shuttles and start hiking from the Terrace Lake trailhead. This trail takes you to three beautiful lakes (Terrace, Shadow, and Cliff Lakes) with lots of views of surrounding peaks along the way. We can opt for a side trip to Cliff Lake (3.2 miles, round trip). Somewhere along the way we can lunch and swim. Then we can either spend the afternoon exploring the Cliff, Shadow, and Terrace Lakes or we can opt to hike down to camp at Paradise Meadows (1.7 miles) for the afternoon. On Sunday, we will hike out on the gentle, well-shaded Hat Creek Trail (1.4 miles). Once we reach the Hat Creek TH we will shuttle to the Terrace Lake TH.
Costs:
- Park Entrance: $30 per vehicle, free with a Senior Pass. You are responsible for your Park admission.
- Campsite: $26 per campsite, $13 with a Senior Pass – I will take care of one site that can accommodate me plus five more campers. If you are not in the lucky five, you will have to get your own accommodations--campsite, cabin, or Wilderness Permit.
- Wilderness Permit: $6 per person. I will get a permit for the group and collect the fees when we know for sure how many are going.
As always, everyone is responsible for their own food and gear
