Join us for a powerful evening with the Ottawa Jazz Orchestra celebrating the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane — one of the most important, searching, and influential musicians in jazz history.
This concert is called Coltrane 100, and it promises to be a big, ambitious evening: a 19-musician Ottawa Jazz Orchestra program featuring Coltrane’s large-scale masterpiece Africa/Brass as well as a full big-band reimagining of his deeply spiritual work A Love Supreme.
Coltrane’s music can be intense, beautiful, meditative, and emotionally direct. He pushed jazz forward, but his music is not just “difficult” music for experts — it has a huge emotional range, from driving energy to prayer-like calm. This should be a memorable concert for anyone interested in jazz, saxophone, big ensemble writing, or music that reaches for something deeper.
