Nottingham AI Meetup, the reboot

In our first iteration, we had some fascinating sessions learning about AI projects, and we watched some great hands-on demos on how to leverage the amazing commodity AI and ML tools that are out there now.

We then slipped into a bit of a hibernation.

So it's time for Nottingham AI Meetup: The Reboot.

Most meetups typically take the format of an expert talking at a room for an hour. We turn up, we eat pizza, drink beer, have a nice chat, learn something interesting, then we're off on our merry way until next time. This style of session certainly has its place, but a) it's hard to keep finding the topics and the speakers, and b) it doesn't really "move the needle" on anything.

I don't know about you, but I'd like the Nottingham AI community to be more than that. Personally, I'd like us to roll up our sleeves and work as a true collective group on one or more AI projects that could maybe benefit our local community... or maybe turn into a commercial venture one day... or, hell why not, maybe change the world!!! And to do this while learning cool stuff, providing and benefiting from the mutual support of the group, and having fun (including pizza and beer).

I do recognise that different people have different skills and skill levels, different levels of time they can commit, and different needs. I propose that we start multiple tracks for the group, so we can keep the education agenda going, but tailor the content to different audiences. Crucially, some of those tracks will be project tracks, and I would hope to see groups of people from our community start to get together on a regular basis to move those projects on.
