2023 TECA winner for Outstanding Young Professional, Alex works for National Hunter, a not-for-profit Fraud Prevention Agency with SAFO status, focused on preventing fraud at application stage. Over recent times Alex’s research has been focused on AI Fraud, its threats and how it’d being developed to protect individuals.
AI - The Growing Threat
Artificial Intelligence (AI), since its creation over 70 years ago, has revolutionised the way we live, work, and interact with technology, however, as the capabilities of AI continue to expand, so do the risks associated with its misuse. One alarming consequence is the rise of AI Fraud, where fraudsters in growing number exploit the power of AI for illicit purposes.
We will look at what types of AI are available, from Generative AI to LLMs and how they can be used for illicit purposes when in the wrong hands and most importantly, how to prevent falling victim to this. The following types of AI will be covered, including how to identify them, what can be done to prevent falling victim to them, and how they can be used for prevention purposes.
