Our pick for July is a 1977 psychological novel by Patricia Highsmith that chronicles the gradual mental decline of a dissatisfied housewife living in Pennsylvania. To cope with the disappointments of her ordinary life, her failing marriage, and her troubled son, she creates an idealized alternate reality within the pages of her private journal. As her actual circumstances worsen, the stark contrast between her real life and her diary entries illustrates a quiet, unsettling descent into delusion.

What to Expect
Our book discussion typically lasts 90 minutes. We begin with the book nominator giving their reasons for the choice and their feelings on the book, then each attendee shares their initial thoughts in turn. Following this structured start, the floor is opened for a more free-flowing discussion on themes, characters, and other relevant ideas. The evening often concludes with members moving to the main bar for a social catch-up and a drink.
