Train/Car/Bus Ramble: Bennerley Viaduct

What we will do: Start walk at 10.30am from Ilkeston Train Station.
We wait for bus/train in case of late arrival.
Walk: Approximately 6 miles. From Ilkeston Railway Station walk along the Erewash Canal southbound for a mile & then turn west to cross the midland railway footbridge going over the fields through Strelley Village & past the lions to Swingate, Kimberly & Bennerly Viaducts new visitor centre & cafe where we have lunch. Then walk over the viaduct onto the Erewash Canal & back to Ilkeston.

Directions by train: From Nottingham departure 10:17am arrives Ilkeston 10:29am. From Chesterfield / Alfreton (09:54/10:05 departures respectively) arrives Ilkeston 10:15am.
Directions by car: Access to car park is off Station Road Ilkeston,
very close to the roundabout with the A6096 and Coronation Road.
Charges apply 7 days 24 hours. 24hr daily rate: £3.00. Off-peak day: £2.20 (Valid after 10:00 until 02:30 Mon-Fri).
Directions by bus: 27 service, Kimberley-Ilkeston or get the TrentBarton bus the ‘TWO’ from the Victoria Centre, Nottingham, buses every 15 mins,
journey time approx. 40 mins.

Important to know: There are usually 10-15 people on these walks. A lot of the walkers will be club members and are not on the Meetup website.

What to bring: Please dress appropriately for a country walk. Wear proper walking boots, bring a rucksack with liquid refreshment and some waterproof clothes depending on the weather forecast for the day.
