Car/Bus Ramble: Hickling Area

Start time: 10.15am for 10.30am.
Walk description: Meet up at The Wharf in Hickling for a 5-6 miles circular walk beside the canal and through the fields. Hickling is a small, farming village on the edge of the Vale of Belvoir. The Grantham Canal runs through the north end of the village. Its history goes back before the Roman times. The railways and the canal have all left their mark on the village. But in the present-day, working farms supplying the Stilton Dairy in Long Clawson - supporting a vibrant rural community. We will be visiting the church and looking for the headstones of the ‘Belvoir Angels’ and how many were ‘Daft’!! Lunch at either ‘The Wharfe’ – closes at 4pm or ‘The Plough’ opens at 4pm.

What to bring: Please dress appropriately for a country walk. Wear proper walking boots, bring a rucksack with liquid refreshment and some waterproof clothes depending on the weather forecast for the day.
