'The Mindful Way' - An 8 Week Program To Combat Depression, Anxiety & Stress

Details
Over 8 consecutive weeks we will come together to work through 'The Mindful Way', a formal 8 week program (designed by leading experts) that can help people to overcome low mood, negative thinking, worry, depression, anxiety and stress.
We have repeatedly been asked if we can find some way for people to access the acclaimed 8 week, structured Mindfulness training... but a way that does not cost participants the usual £200-£250.
And this is it! A series of 8 friendly, weekly meetings that is an opportunity for a group of up to 15 people to come together and support each other in working through 'The Mindful Way', the home study version of the renowned Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) 8 week course.
These weekly meetings will provide a chance for participants to explore the coming week's course work (and meditation exercises) together... and to also discuss, share and reflect on the experiences they've had over the previous week while actually putting the course work and meditations into practice in their daily lives.
The meetings will all be hosted by Shaun (a highly experienced group facilitator who runs our other weekly Mindfulness meetings, and who has himself previously completed the full MBCT program), along with Jamie (who is our regular co-host, and who is a Counsellor in training). All the course materials (including 'The Mindful Way' Workbook and a CD of all the meditations used during the course) will be provided, with everyone receiving their own, personal copies.
'The Mindful Way' course was written and compiled by the creators of the MBCT program - Professor John Teasdale, Professor Mark Williams and Professor Zindel Segal. They are leading clinical experts in cognition sciences, psychology and mood disorders, and all are themselves experts in (and practitioners of) Mindfulness meditation. The weekly meetings will be held on Wednesday evenings at 6pm and they will last approximately 2½ hours. They will be designed to be friendly, welcoming, informal and supportive. In addition to attending the weekly meetings, participants in the program should expect to also undertake approximately 40 minutes of home meditation practice (plus other occasional short exercises) every day, for six days of each week that the course runs.
Places are strictly limited - to secure your place please RSVP and then pay your £25 deposit (see Costs, below). For further details about 'The Mindful Way' program itself, scroll down.

More About 'The Mindful Way' Program
The program is the home study version of the renowned Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) course. The MBCT course is one of the most frequently applied formal Mindfulness trainings in use today, and it is now widely used in clinical, therapy and counselling settings. It is based on the original work of Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts (the "father" of modern, secular Mindfulness), with some modifications and adaptations that draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). It has become one of the most popular modern therapies for reducing stress and helping people to better mange anxiety, worry, negative thinking and depression.
The Course consists of 8 weekly, structured blocks of material and course work (including daily meditations and other home exercises) that teach the theory and practical techniques of MBCT in an easy, careful, straightforward and step-by-step way.
What the publishers of the program say: Imagine an 8 week program that can help you overcome depression, anxiety and stress - by simply learning new ways to respond to your own thoughts and feelings. That program is Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and it has been tested and proven effective in clinical trials throughout the world.
The expert authors provide specific Mindfulness practices to try each week, plus reflection questions, tools for keeping track of progress, and helpful comments from others who who have gone through the program. Like a trusted map, this course guides you step-by-step along the path of change.

Important - Mindfulness and other forms of meditation are safe and appropriate practices for the vast majority of people and they are proven to offer a wide range of benefits, including the lowering of stress and deep levels of relaxation. However current research indicates that all forms of meditation (including Mindfulness) may be unwise for people with bipolar vulnerability or those who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD), unless it is conducted under clinical supervision. If you are currently receiving treatment for any form of mental health issue (or have received such treatment in the recent past, or have reason to believe that you might need such treatment), you should consult your doctor or health care professional before engaging with Mindfulness or any form of meditation.
