Weekly Meeting: How To Handle Fear & Anger Well
Details
This week we'll be looking at Handling Fear and Anger Well (and that mean's handling well both our own Anger and that of other people—with other people's anger often being a prime cause of fear and anxiety within us).
During the meeting we'll be exploring the powerful tools, techniques and methods that Mindfulness gives us to help us deal safely, positively and effectively with anger (again, both our own and other people's) and also fear (which is often overpowering emotion than can so easily paralyse us and prevent us from being able to make the most of ourselves and our life).
In the course of the evening we'll hear from the leading Psychologist and respected Mindfulness coach, Marsha Linehan (who is the Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences at Washington University in Seattle and the acclaimed creator of DBT [Dialectical Behaviour Therapy], which combines behavioural science with concepts like acceptance and mindfulness to bring about profound personal transformation in people with significant, debilitating mental health conditions).
In our time together we'll look at how we can all learn to handle the often paralysing, twin emotions of anger and fear—two of our most viceral and overwhelming emotions—well, both in terms of mastering our own emotions (so, shifting our behaviours away from knee-jerk ‘reactions’ that actually don't serve us well to, instead, using wiser, considered responses, ones that prove to be much more effective in achieving our aims and desired outcomes). And we'll also look at how we can learn to manage difficult situations involving others much more smoothly and painlessly.
The meeting will include some fascinating insights into the theory of emotional regulation, self-control, and managing others—plus we'll try out some simple and practical techniques that are fast-acting and which we can take away from the meeting to apply immediately in our own, day-to-day lives.
During the meeting Marsha and other top experts will share their expertise and understanding with us in short but inspiring pieces of video teaching, and our host, Shaun Glossop (our Group director and one of the main Mindfulness teachers here in the East Midlands) will guide us through the topic in a grounded and easy-to-understand way. Plus, of course, the meeting will also include several periods of blissful meditation (which will all be guided, to ensure that everyone shares in the same meditation experience and to help those who are new to meditation).
