Weekly Meeting: Proven Techniques To Bring Calm, Peace & Sanity Into Your Life

In this week's Thursday meeting we'll be exploring 3 simple (scientifically proven) techniques that can move us quickly into a state of calm and inner peace – including at times of difficulty, challenge or emotional distress. And, what's more, these same, straightforward techniques (if practised on a regular and fairly consistent basis) are now known, curtesy of modern neuroscience, to gradually shift us, over time, into a new way of being and a new way of engaging with life on a day-by-day basis – a way that makes an almost constant state of calm and inner-peace our default sitting (our "new normal"), and which is a much more pleasant way to live our lives.
During the evening we'll hear top teaching and expert insights from some of the leading figures in contemporary meditation practice, psychology and neuroscience - including Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn (the ‘father’ of the modern, secular mindfulness movement), Vidyamala Burch (one of the UK's foremost mindfulness teachers) and Dr Jud Brewer (a clinical psychiatrist and top neuroscientist based at Yale University) – and we'll also try out some simple but powerful practices that can switch us quickly into a state of inner-calm, practices that we can then take away and put into immediate use in our daily lives.
In the course of the meeting, Jon, Vidyamala and Jud (together with other top experts) will share their understanding and expertise with us in some short but inspiring video clips, and our time together on Thursday evening will be hosted by local mindfulness teacher Shaun Glossop (our Group Director, who is a trained Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy coach). Shaun will guide us through the evening's topic in a down-to-earth and easy to understand way.
