Creating Structure and Visual Flow in Real-Time Recording
Join visual strategist, facilitator, and long-time NOVA Scribes community member Nevada Lane for a behind the scenes look at how she thinks, draws, and decides in real time while graphic recording. In this Practitioner Process Talk, Nevada walks us through her practical approach to layout, palette building, and visual decision-making when the conversation is moving fast and the paper is blank.
Nevada shares how she thinks about and creates structure for her charts and the various ways she creates visual hierarchy and coherence to make charts content rich, visually appealing AND useful. For Nevada, content is king - everything else is icing on the cake.
Nevada will also offer a short working lesson on visual vocabulary with a focus on how she draws expressive people, and how she developed her own unique visual style.
Throughout the session, Nevada uses examples from real charts created under tight timelines to show how she creates structure, uses containers to manage complexity, and makes quick decisions about what to include or simplify.
This Practitioner Process Talk is for anyone who wants to see how an experienced graphic recorder thinks on her feet, builds charts that feel balanced and alive, and brings clarity to complex conversations through simple lines, thoughtful palette choices, and a steady focus on content.
Join us for an in-depth look into Nevada’s process.
Practitioner Process Talks is an ongoing NOVA Scribes / IFVP Learning Lab series where a visual practitioner walks us through their process from end-to-end for creating impactful visuals and experiences.
