The Visual Practice Today and What It Might Become — Reilly Dow and Erin Gordon
Details
As visual practice expands across facilitation, recording, strategy, and sensemaking, the way our work manifests—in person and online—is becoming increasingly diverse. In this session, we will explore examples of our practice from different contexts and reflect together on what anchors the field, specifically focusing on what may be stretching or redefining it. Rather than prescribing answers, our conversation will be guided by a fundamental question:
Is visual practice defined by how we work, what we produce, or by what it enables?
In alignment with this inquiry, this session invites practitioners to examine how we describe our work, what we consider within the bounds of the practice, and how we communicate its value to clients in an evolving professional landscape.
## Learning Objectives
- Examine how visual practice manifests across facilitation, recording, and sensemaking contexts
- Identify core elements that anchor visual practice regardless of format or role
- Explore emerging interpretations that may expand or reshape the field
- Reflect on how to describe and position one's work to clients in a shifting professional landscape
