Guerilla Scribing with Fry

What happens when you take the skills of graphic recording and visual facilitation out of the workshop room and into everyday life?
In this interactive NOVA Scribes session, Fry will introduce the concept of Guerrilla Scribing: using visual listening, sense-making, and real-time drawing in informal, unexpected, and deeply human situations. Think beyond conferences and strategy sessions. What might scribing look like during a difficult conversation, a first date, a family gathering, a conflict between friends, or even while watching reality TV?

Together, we'll explore how the tools we use as facilitators and visual practitioners can become everyday life skills. Through examples, discussion, and hands-on practice, you'll experiment with capturing conversations, relationships, emotions, and dynamics as they unfold in real time.

This workshop will include:

• Examples of Guerrilla Scribing in action
• A breakdown of the principles and process behind the practice
• A live demonstration
• A participatory drawing exercise
• Group discussion and Q&A

Whether you're a graphic recorder, sketchnoter, facilitator, coach, or simply someone curious about bringing more intentionality and understanding into your daily interactions, this session will offer a fresh perspective on what it means to truly listen with a pen.

Fry (she/they) is a graphic recorder, illustrator, and educator who believes images are a powerful tool for creating positive change. Her interest in visual work is founded in an appreciation for deeper levels of listening, cultivating new mindsets, and allowing space for people to be creative. Fry’s work as an artist extends into the culture of zine making; she has received two grants from the Regional Arts and Culture Council to produce publications focused on mental health awareness. She is also passionate about public art and can be found sitting inside her creations Selfie Bot or Ventomatic.
