Digital Scribing 101
Details
By request!
We're starting from zero on this one. If you're thinking about making the leap from paper to digital graphic recording, this is a good place to start!
We'll walk through the practical mechanics of digital scribing, step by step and from the ground up.
Using Procreate and an iPad Pro with an Apple Pencil, we'll explore everything needed to create a reliable, professional digital graphic recording setup for both virtual and in-person events. We'll give you a complete workflow, including hardware recommendations, screen-sharing options, projection setups, cables and adapters, backup plans, and techniques for working comfortably during long sessions.
Topics will include:
- Choosing the right app and hardware (although we'll primarily be using Procreate and an iPad)
- Setting up Procreate for graphic recording
- Creating and using a reusable template
- Organizing brushes, palettes, templates, and visual assets
- Using reference images and visual libraries during live sessions
- Managing layers for flexibility and speed
- Working with zoom, navigation, and gesture shortcuts
- Projecting your work in a room while drawing live (or, how to avoid participant nausea)
- Sharing your screen remotely in Zoom or Teams
- Exporting, delivering, and archiving completed graphic recordings
- Common technical pitfalls and backup strategies
We'll also discuss how digital graphic recording differs from traditional paper-based approaches, including advantages such as infinite canvas options, editable content, reusable assets, rapid color changes, layer management, and easier post-event revisions.
Even if you're completely new to digital graphic recording, you'll leave with a clear, step-by-step roadmap for building a digital scribing workflow that is reliable, efficient, and ready for client work.
Bring your questions, your current setup, and your curiosity. This session is designed to be highly practical, with plenty of time for demonstrations, troubleshooting, and discussion.
