Polarization, tension, and misalignment are not only interpersonal challenges. They are higher-order disruptions that reveal how differently people make meaning, assign value, respond to pressure, and adapt to changing life conditions. As groups face more ambiguity, speed, complexity, and social fragmentation, facilitators and coaches need a deeper way to understand the forces underneath conflict, motivation, resistance, and competing definitions of progress.
This 90-minute introduction to The 6 Capacities of Leadership gives facilitators and coaches a practical framework for understanding values diversity and the adaptive logic operating beneath human behavior. Grounded in the research and approach of Spiral Dynamics, the session explores how different capacities shape human needs, priorities, assumptions, fears, and responses to change. Participants will deepen their understanding of human complexity, expand their interpretive range, and become better equipped to navigate the tension, emergence, and misalignment that show up in teams, groups, organizations, and systems.
Summer Koide works with senior leaders and their teams to expand their range to match the complexity they are navigating. She is the founder of Creative Change Consulting, where she created the 6 Capacities of Leadership™, and of Let's Summerize, a visual facilitation and offsite design practice. She spent twenty years in corporate innovation and team leadership at companies including Target and Walmart, is a Gallup-Certified CliftonStrengths coach and ValueMatch practitioner, and hosts leadership offsites at The Getaway, her retreat space on Lake Minnetonka.
