From Scribe to Strategic Ally: Designing Partnership in Facilitation

Many visual practitioners face familiar challenges: being brought in late, positioned as “support,” or unable to influence design and outcomes. It’s less about drawing skill. These are partnering and positioning problems—more specifically, partnership design challenges.

This session is built around a central inquiry: What shifts when we intentionally design partnership in facilitation rather than leaving it to chance?

When partnership is not consciously designed, influence becomes accidental and the visual practitioner’s role is often undervalued. Designing partnership is the shift from visual support to strategic ally.

During this session, participants will work with a practical framework that explores three essential elements:

Identify (self)
Design (relational)
Intervene (generative)

Through reflection and dialogue, participants will surface patterns that limit their influence and identify shifts that elevate their contribution.
