Mapping Change: How to translate change conversations into visual maps of meaning
With Adriano Pianesi
When it comes to change, we know where we want to go, but we don't know where we are. The problem is orientation.
How do you listen to a conversation about organizational change and turn what you hear into a meaningful visual map?
Join NOVA Scribes and organizational change expert Adriano Pianesi for an interactive workshop exploring how graphic recorders and visual facilitators can recognize the underlying dynamics of change and make them visible.
Drawing on decades of experience leading organizational transformations, Adriano developed the Changemaker Atlas, an illustrated map of the challenges, opportunities, and obstacles people encounter when trying to make change happen. The map organizes these experiences into four essential territories: preparing for change, engaging people, providing compelling leadership, and measuring results.
In this workshop, we'll use the Changemaker Atlas as a framework for listening to real-world conversations about change. Through a practical case study, participants will explore how to recognize what's happening beneath the surface of a conversation:
- Where is the change effort getting stuck?
- What's missing?
- Who needs to be involved?
- What would meaningful progress look like?
We'll then explore how to translate those insights into a visual map that helps people see their situation more clearly, identify opportunities, and consider their next steps. Participants will practice identifying the patterns and relationships, organizing them visually, and using the map to reveal possibilities that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Whether you're a graphic recorder, visual facilitator, or change practitioner, you'll gain a new lens for listening to conversations about change and a practical framework for turning complex organizational challenges into visuals that support understanding and action.
