For tourists traveling to Japan, izakaya — casual bars known for their lively atmospheres and small bites of bar food — are often a must-visit stop for a taste of the local culture. But for those who don’t have travel plans in the books, you can sample that style of eatery right in Northern Virginia. At izakaya-style restaurants and bars, diners will find cocktails, sake, and delectable Japanese bites like yakitori and takoyaki that provide a taste of Tokyo right at home.

This cozy spot in Del Ray just opened in October. It blends Asian street food culture with Japanese influences, with menu items like hand rolls, donburi, takoyaki, and sashimi.
