Annual Beach Day and Book Swap!

Bring out your inner beach (book) bum! Let's celebrate National Paperback Book Day a few days early. Grab some paperback books and join us on Strathmere Beach to celebrate appropriately - by reading, relaxing, and swapping paperbacks for the fourth year in a row!

THE ACTIVITY: BEACH & BOOK SWAP
Surf, sun, and serious relaxing at Strathmere Beach. This charming town located just south of Ocean City, NJ is the epitome of chill. No boardwalk, no noisy bars or restaurants on the beach, no crowds. Just sand, waves and seagulls.

Throw on your bathing suit, pop a paperback (or the e-version, if you so desire!) to read, and drop a spare to share in your beach bag. Don't forget your favorite beverages and snacks/lunch. Don't forget to bring the essentials- an umbrella, beach chair, sun screen, blanket and towels. Heck, if you have it throw some shovels in your tote and build a sand castle, if you want! The day is all about reading, having fun, and swapping books!

ATTIRE: Wear whatever you want! Hate your bathing suit? No worries! Wear shorts and a T! Looking to maximize your tan? Go for it! Don your itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow polka dot bikini! It doesn't matter a wit!

BOOKSWAP: Got an overabundance of books? Looking for some new ones? Bring a paperback book or five to swap! We'll set up a blanket for us to dump our books onto.

BATHROOM: There's a lovely (pick your favorite term!) Portable restroom, Porta-potty, Porta-john, Honey bucket, WC, Porta-loo, Johnny-on-the-spot, Jon just as you enter the beach but no other bathroom type facilities. (It's usually not too smelly and is actually pretty clean! :)) You maaaaay want to bring along some TP so you're not caught with your pants down looking around helplessly for someone with a square to spare! :)

PARKING: Park as near as possible to the library which is on Putnam and Commonwealth. Enter the beach via the path off of Putnam. If you're open to or need carpooling, please note that in the comments/chat to this event or reach out to those you may have previously met!

FEE: No beach tags required, it's FREE!

LIFEGUARDS: Every time I've gone, there have been life guards on duty so I assume they will be there, but I can't guarantee it.

FOOD: Bring your own beverage, lunch or snacks.

SEATING: Bring your own beach chair or blanket, sunscreen, and umbrella, if desired.

THE BOOK: Whatever paperback you want to read! Bring some to swap!
