Money In Motion and Calder Gardens

Join Joanne for a day in the city exploring two very different forms of American creativity—how we design and understand our money 💵, and how artist Alexander Calder designed and transformed balance and space into art.
We’ll begin at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia’s interactive Money in Motion exhibit, where we’ll explore money, banking, counterfeit detection, and the role of the Federal Reserve (scroll down for your reading materials! Yep, you've got homework! 😂) Along the way, we’ll work together on a scavenger hunt and look for a Calder mobile displayed in the atrium.
That Calder connection will lead us across the city to Calder Gardens for a private guided tour devoted to the life, work, and imagination of one of Philadelphia’s most influential artists.

FEES: $20 per person
The fee covers the private guided tour at Calder Gardens. Admission to the Federal Reserve’s Money in Motion exhibit is free. Lunch is pay on your own.

Money in Motion Exhibit
6th and Arch Streets, Philadelphia

Explore money, banking, and the role of the Federal Reserve through an interactive educational experience.
We’ll have the opportunity to see a $100,000 note, learn how to spot counterfeit currency, take a seat at the table as a Federal Reserve policymaker, and discover how money moves through the American economy.
Along the way, we’ll keep an eye 👁️ out for items on a scavenger list and the Calder exhibit in the atrium which inspires our afternoon stop.
Admission to the Money in Motion exhibit is free.

📕 WHAT TO READ: Money, Symbols and Benjamin Franklin
Instead of purchasing a traditional book, we’ll pair this adventure with two free educational publications from the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia:

• 2:00 PM 🎨 THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES: Private Guided Tour - Calder Gardens

2100 Benjamin Franklin Parkway, Philadelphia
After lunch, we’ll segue to Calder Gardens for a 45-minute private guided tour. The tour will introduce us to Alexander Calder’s innovative approach to sculpture, movement, balance, and space. After the guided portion concludes, we’ll be free to continue exploring Calder Gardens on our own.
