Assertive vs Rude: Finding the Right Balance Without Crossing the Line at Work
Have you ever spoken up at work and later wondered, “Was I too harsh?”
Or stayed quiet because you didn’t want to come across as difficult, confrontational or rude?
There can be a surprisingly thin line between being assertive and being perceived as rude — especially in the workplace, where personalities, communication styles and expectations differ.
For our next NST Discussion Circle, led by Tee, we’ll be having an open conversation about where that line actually is.
We’ll explore:
→ What does healthy assertiveness look like at work?
→ When does being direct become rude?
→ How do you disagree with someone without creating unnecessary conflict?
→ How do you set boundaries while remaining respectful?
→ Does culture, personality or seniority affect how assertiveness is perceived?
→ What do you do when someone mistakes your assertiveness for disrespect?
This isn't a lecture. It’s a conversation.
Come with your opinions, experiences and questions.
We’ll share different perspectives, challenge our thinking and hopefully leave with a better understanding of how to communicate confidently without crossing the line.
