[!!!!CANCELLED!!!!] Offline experiences and wicked APIs in the browser

Details

After a long break we are finally back with our first event of 2020. Yay!!! πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€

This time around we are bringing together two very special speakers, that are very close to our heart, to talk about browser-related things.

Sam Vloeberghs is a freelance software architect and Internet entrepreneur, currently focusing on frontend technologies and frameworks like Angular and Workbox while keeping a sharp eye on the basics and advanced aspects of HTML5. He is the co-organiser of the Belgian Angular Conference, NG-BE and the Angular Belgium meetup. Sam writes about the technologies he uses on a daily base at https://samvloeberghs.be. When he is not working he likes to spend time with his family, work out in the gym or go for a long walk!

Rowdy Rabouw is a web developer with over 20 years’ experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP. He’s been working as a freelancer since 2004 and has been employed by the Dutch insurance company Nationale-Nederlanden since 1992. Currently, he is a Senior Developer working on Vue.js, Node.js and NativeScript projects and is a Progress Developer Expert for NativeScript.

IMPLEMENTING POWERFUL OFFLINE EXPERIENCES WITH WORKBOX

  • Sam Vloeberghs -

Implementing offline functionality has been a challenge in the past. Very different technologies enabled offline capabilities in the browser, but with the rise of service worker support the game has changed. Workbox by Google is built with the goal to make developing Progressive Web Apps and offline behaviour using service workers easy.
In this talk we will first go through some short history of offline technologies. Next we will explore the functionalities of Workbox that allow us to create PWA and more specifically powerful offline experiences for our applications.

BROWSER APIs: THE UNKNOWN SUPER HEROES

  • Rowdy Rabouw -

Still think browsers are only capable of parsing HTML, CSS and JavaScript? Think again! Browsers have become much more powerful and contain numerous APIs that can enrich the user experience or are just plain fun.

This talk will introduce you to some of them (like battery, speech, audio, location, …) and show you how easy it is to unleash their power with JavaScript.
