Microsoft Orleans

Building scalable, real-time distributed applications is notoriously difficult, often requiring developers to manage concurrency, networking, state synchronization, and fault tolerance by hand.

Microsoft Orleans offers a different approach through its “virtual actor” model, allowing developers to build cloud-native systems that scale automatically while dramatically simplifying backend complexity.

This presentation introduces the core concepts behind Orleans, explains why it was created, and demonstrates how it can be used to power highly concurrent systems.

We will compare a traditional systems against an Orleans-based solution to highlight how Orleans minimizes framework overhead, improves scalability, and makes distributed programming more approachable for .NET developers.
