This is a trial process and is not available on all hikes.

Let's visit the 63rd National Park(NP)-New River Gorge(NRG) NP and Preserve: NRG NP was declared a National Park in Dec. 2020. It contains 53 miles of the New River (the second oldest river in the world, approximately 10-360 milllion years old!); ruins and historic sites that tell the stories of people and their lives in the 1800s. The NRG Bridge, "the longest steel span in the western hemisphere", was completed in 1977.
*Hikes ratings: A-D; pace 2.5mi when moving, slower going up/down. Make sure you are comfortable doing an "A" hike at this pace and with the terrain before signing up. Everyone is on Wait-list until prescreen questions are answered. No dogs allowed.

Itinerary: meet 7:30AM at campground, carpool; arrive: 7:45AM at TH.

Lodging:

Terrain: natural, dirt, roots, stones, rock scrambling, steps; paved roads.

Bring: electrolytes(1+L per 5miles); tick/insect repellent; sunscreen; hiking poles(if you use them); waterproof hiking boots; hat; raingear; snacks/lunch; basic personal first aid items; your emergency medicines(if you use them).

Cost: free NP.

Cancellation: steady heavy rain or thunderstorm cancels. We'll hike in light rain.
