You must read the following NVHC Sign-in Sheet Statement/Liability Disclaimer, https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf and then answer the question that you will see when you RSVP with "I accept" to be permitted on the hike.
This is a 7.3 mile hike with 722 feet of elevation (most in a 2 mile stretch). There are small stream crossings, tree roots, and some rocky areas. Also, the trail could be muddy in spots if there has been recent rain.
From the Fountainhead parking lot we head East to the quiet side of the park. We hike primarily on equestrian trails where rarely is a horse seen. There are some very nice views of the Occoquan Reservoir. We'll also come across at least one abandoned car!
Our pace will be 2-2.5 miles per hour when moving. We will start at the Fountainhead Park parking lot. Please arrive a few minutes early to get signed in. We leave promptly at 9:00 a.m.
Afterwards, an optional lunch a short distance away.
WHERE TO MEET: After pulling into Fountainhead Park (10875 Hampton Road, Fairfax, VA), go a ways in, past the maintenance building on the right. The parking lot is the next turn; it's on the right. Look for a Blue SUV with the back hatch open.
NEED TO KNOW: There are small stream crossings, tree roots, some rocky areas and the elevation is rolling for the first half of the hike. If it's rained recently the trail may be muddy, so you may want hiking poles. We will stop about halfway for a snack. Bring plenty of water.
DETAILS: There are restrooms a little beyond the parking lot on the right. Go to the end of the parking lot and take a short walk further ahead to flush toilets. Or there are porta potties in the parking lot.
