Join us for an approximately 8.5 mile hike in Washington DC around Hains Point and the Tidal Basin.
Description
There is a 6.5 mile option (Columbia Island Marina to Hains point & back) if you choose not to complete the loop around the Tidal Basin (2.1 mile).
The majority of this hike is shaded and on pavement.
We will begin at Columbia Island Marina (Lady Byrd Johnson Park, GW Parkway, Arlington, VA; 38°52'56.4"N 77°03'25.9"W) across the 14th Street bridge; take the stairs on the DC side of the bridge to allow us to gain access to Haines Point, home of the National Park Service Headquarters. We will stop to enjoy the view of the Potomac from Haines Point. There are facilities all along the route.
Emerging from the Haines point, you will have the option of returning to your car by way of the 14th street bridge or walking around the Tidal Basin where we can take a lovely shaded break while enjoying a view of the Jefferson Memorial and surroundings.
Hiking Pace: We will hike at a pace of 2.5-2.7 mph while moving. You must have experience with hikes of this length.

Dogs are permitted on this hike in accordance with the NVHC Dog Policy
