INTRODUCTION
There is enough time for a second tubing trip this season, based on a plan hatched (over a couple of beers) to address enhancements discussed on the first trip (which was held on August 2nd). The event will take place in Brunswick, MD. We will be tubing downriver on the Potomac (calm waters; fewer crowds).
BRUNCH IN BRUNSWICK (0900 AM at (TENTATIVELY) "BEANS IN THE BELFRY" - TO BE CONFIRMED)
Given the rather late start to the tubing trip there should be time for an optional brunch first in the historic railroad town of Brunswick, MD.
Address: 122 W Potomac St Brunswick, MD 21716
Coordinates: 39.31333, -77.6290
Parking: Should be available at the nearby MARC station if not closer.
[Quiz: The name Brunswick was so popular that they had two towns in Maryland named Brunswick and they had to change the name of one of them. What current town is it? Answer in a few days].
TUBING (11:00 AM at BRUNSWICK FAMILY CAMPGROUND)
*** Directions/ GPS Coordinates: Will confirm exact location and provide coordinates ***
Expect to be on the river (Potomac) for three hours. Outfitter (River and Trail) will provide all needed equipment (tube + life vest), shuttle, and other logistics. Outfitter will also provide a snack which will serve as lunch. Bring additional snacks and drinks to share. We will tie the tubes together. There will also be a tube available to keep a cooler, to be shared by all. Bring your swimwear, a waterproof bag, water, sunblock, inexpensive shades, and waterproof footwear. Also bring a towel and change of clothes (to be kept locked in the car along with other valuables such as your purse, wallet, phone, and so on).
RESERVATION AND PAYMENT (READ CAREFULLY)
Leader will make all reservations in order to get a discount for 10 or more tubes. Be prepared to pay the leader $55 cash (less than what it would cost you at $53 plus taxes) when you get to the location on the morning of the event. Please bring exact amount. Cash only - Sorry no checks, credit cards, Venmo, ... If we do get a discount, the leader will buy the participants ice cream for the money left after the event.
Late Cancellations/No-Shows Warning: Once you confirm and the date of cancellation has passed per outfitter refund policy, you will be committed to the trip and the expense. If you cancel after the date or do not show up and the leader expends the amount, you will be charged $55.
ICE CREAM
Once back at the cars we will stop at an ice cream shop before returning - leader will buy using the discount money.
DOGS
Not permitted due to the nature of the trip.
CARPOOLS
Participants can form their own carpools from Carderock Rec Area in Bethesda, MD (see directions below).
Directions to Meeting Spots – Northern Virginia Hiking Club
Neither the Club nor the leaders are responsible for coordinating transportation to/from the trailhead. Hikers are not guaranteed to get a ride from the carpool location. Carpooling is organized by the participants, and they participate at their own risk. Leader plans to be at the meeting place. Suggested carpool fee: $10.
