Washington Monument State Park to Annapolis Rocks (Rating: A)

Come join me on this lovely 11.1 mile hike, out-and-back on the AT in Maryland, with 1860 feet of elevation. We will begin hiking at 9:00. The time posted is for any members who plan to carpool from Centreville Park and Ride, so if you are going to drive directly to the trailhead, please plan to arrive by 8:45.

The weather looks pleasant for Thursday with a high of 82, perfect for a shady hike with a moderate amount of sustained climbing. We will have a beautiful view at Annapolis Rocks, our turnaround point, where we will stop for an early-ish lunch. On our return, will will take the side trail to visit the Washington Monument near the end of our hike.

We will hike at an average moving pace of about 2.5 miles per hour and stop at all intersections. The restroom facilities have been closed this season, but there should be a portapotty. Please note, if you arrive before 8:00 a.m. the gates to the parking lot may not be open, so you may need to wait. The park fee is $3 for Maryland residents, $5 for out-of-state. There is no attendant, so please bring cash for the pay station.

Trailhead: Meet at Washington Monument State Park at 8:45 in the upper parking lot. Go past the initial backpacking parking lot to your left as you enter the park, and proceed to the Washington Monument State Park Trailhead Parking.
