Gathland State Park to Weverton Cliffs: MD AT (Rating: A)

Please join me on this lovely out-and-back hike on the Appalachian Trail in Maryland, 11.6 miles with 1650 feet of total elevation gain. The hike will begin at Gathland State Park near Burkittsville, MD and follow the AT south along South Mountain to Weverton Cliffs. We will begin hiking at 9:00.

There are no steep, sustained climbs on this hike, just a lot of rolling ups and downs, as well as some rocky sections. We will have an early lunch at the spectacular Weverton Cliffs overlook, and then retrace our steps back to our cars.

We will hike at an average moving pace of 2.8 miles per hour and stop at all intersections. There are restroom facilities at the trailhead, and there is no park fee.
