This is a 10 mile hike with 2500' feet of elevation gain. The hike takes place in the southern portion of the central section of Shenandoah National Park.
From the South River Picnic Area we will take the Appalachian Trail (AT) north past the Pocosin Cabin and then take the Pocosin Fire Road and Horse Trails past the Pocosin Mission ruins and on to South River Falls. South River falls is 83 feet high and is the third tallest in the park. There is a steep 2 mile climb with 900' gain at the end of the hike. We hike at a pace of 2.5-3.0 mph when moving.

Neither the Club nor the hike leaders are responsible for coordinating transportation to/from the trailhead. Hikers are not guaranteed to get a ride to the trailhead from the carpool location. Carpooling is organized by the participants and they participate at their own risk.
