What we’re about
Welcome to the NW Steelhead & Salmon Fishing Group.
We are a group of anglers with a passion for sport fishing as well as conservation to ensure we have the best fishing available.
The purpose of our group is to connect people in the Portland and surrounding areas in numerous types of fishing and related activities.
Our meetups will include fishing trips, training seminars, volunteer activities, meetings of the Association of NW steelheaders, and any other type of fishing activity you would like.
Many of our members belong to the Association of NW Steelheaders so you will see a lot of announents for their meetings. Weather you’re a new fisherman or old, we welcome you. We hope to share the knowledge we have and learn from others who have fished the local waters for many years.
(We have a no tolerance policy for breaking the law, using inappropriate language, being rude or degrading to others, and/or using this site for any reason that does not support the purpose above. Any violators will be automatically kicked).
As a side note we encourage you to either show up to events you RSVP for or cancel your RSVP. If there is a paid event and you don't show up you will be charged if not cancelled by the deadline. Non payment will result in a kick from our group.
Happy Fishing.

Very excited for our annual Deschutes trip this year. Its Steelhead and Salmon bank fishing and camping trip along the Deschutes River at the mouth of the Columbia. We camp at the Deschutes River State Recreation area.
Wednesday the 10th to Sunday the 14th of September.
This is a fishing and camping trip with some general instruction and guidance, fishing for steelhead and salmon. We have a group spot reserved for 25 people. Some will be experienced and some will be new. I usually take 1 or 2 out each day and walk with them and show them how to catch fish. We do spinner making at the campground and talk about different methods. We always catch fish, usually salmon.
$25 per person to camp, whether you stay one or all nights. Feel free to drop in if you don't want to camp, but want to tag along to fish for a day and/or want to learn spinner making. (No charge for fishing with us for the day).
We are in the Group Camping spot, Loop G, Site A, which sleeps 25. Site A is the top left corner as you come into G Loop. Enter G loop and turn left and we have the 5 spots in the corner closest to the road.
Once you RSVP payment is required asap. You can send it to my Paypal or Venmo. Need FULL NAME to register and cell phone number. If you RSVP and don't communicate or pay within a week, you will be bumped.
Last year several people caught salmon or steelhead for the first time. There are several of us who are experienced and love to help.Food is on your own. Water is on your own. Bring your camping gear and tent. The group site is made up of 5 camping spots next to each other. Each spot will be shared by 3 to 5 people. Helpful if you can carpool. Parking is limited. Try to keep your tents small if you can. Singe, 2 or 3 person tents, since you will be sharing a spot.
Famous Friday night Mexican food potluck. Taquila welcome. In the comments, we can share what you will bring to dinner to share on Friday night. I got steak and tortillas. Need cheese, sour cream, rice, chips, salsa, and whatever?
Here is the link for the friday dinner. Please sign up.
