Distance: 6.8 miles RT
Starting Elevation: 5900 feet
Top Elevation: 8900 feet
Elevation Gain: 3000 feet
Difficulty: Difficult to Very Difficult
Permits: NW Forest Pass
I have scaled back this excursion due to the hot weather forecast. Government Camp (around 4000 ft elevation) has a forecasted high of 98, and it will most likely get into the high 80's at the trailhead. We will be above tree-line for most of the hike, thus offering no shade. If anyone would like, we could find a waterfall in the Gorge on the return trip to hike or hang out at.
The maximum number of attendees (12) is set by Wilderness regulations.
Cooper Spur is a splendid 6.4 mile (and more) alpine hike that gets one about as close to the summit as possible without technical gear. I would like to practice some glissading on the way down if there is enough snow.
The ten essentials are mandatory. Those climbing Mt. Adams with me may also want to bring their ice axe (and possibly crampons) to get accustomed to using them.

While a return time cannot be predicted, I would like to be back in Portland by late-afternoon or early-evening. There are many factors which can affect how long it takes to complete a hike and return to the meeting spot.
We will meet, set up carpools, and head out shortly after the meeting time. Please help drivers with gas money.. It is approximately ninety miles one-way from Gateway TC to the trailhead. A suggested donation is $.10/mile, but actual amounts requested will be left up to individual drivers to decide.
I have instituted a late-cancel/no-show policy for the hikes I organize. Any RSVP changes from "yes" to "no" for this hike after 4 pm on Friday, June 26 and any "no-shows" will be documented and that person will not be allowed to RSVP for any future hikes that I may organize until such time we can discuss why they cancelled after the cut-off time or were a no-show. Please be respectful of your fellow hikers and give them ample time to sign up for any spots that may open up. This is a large Meetup group with plenty of interest from others. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
****************************************************************The Organizers assume no liability for anything that happens at any meetup event such as injuries and/or other accidents that may occur on the hiking trails or paths or commuting to or from the meeting spot and/or trailhead. I am simply a volunteer organizer inviting others to hike with me.
While I arrive prepared and have organized many events, it is everyone's personal responsibility to do their own research associated with a specific event. It is strongly advised to only sign up for hikes or other events that meet your level of knowledge, experience and health condition. Thank you. ****************************************************************
