Cook Hill Loop Hike

Details

This is an odd-ball little hike on unofficial trails and old roadbeds. We'll encounter steep meadows, wind sculpted trees, a variety of wildflowers, and if you look in the right direction, you may spot few pieces of old motors. It is on the next ridge east of Dog Mountain and with a little luck we'll have the trail to ourselves. We did this hike last year and it did not disappoint. Take a look at the pictures to see what may await, should you brave the 3000 feet of elevation gain through forest, glade, and mountain meadows.

  • Distance: 8.8 miles
  • High point: 3,015 feet
  • Elevation gain: 2930 feet
  • Difficulty: Moderate to hard
  • Pace: 2 mile per hour
  • Driving Distance: 110 miles round trip + bridge tolls
  • Permits: None
  • Dogs: No
  • Warnings: Poison Oak, Ticks, Rattlesnakes

We will meet at the Gateway Transit Center, on the ground floor for carpooling. Please arrive at 7:50 am so we can leave at 8:00. I will drive and can accommodate 3 other hikers, past that limit, other drivers will be needed.
