NYC Robotics Meetup #4 @ Viam, Manhattan

Details

We are excited to announce the next in-person event for the NYC Robotics Meetup group, with a focus on software for robotics and automation.

The meetup will feature speakers from Viam and Real-Time Innovations (RTI), and is hosted at the Viam offices in Manhattan. There will be a number of hardware demo's and hands-on experiences!

Special thanks to our event host and sponsor, Viam.
Viam is building a robotics platform that makes it easier to turn great ideas into production-ready robots. Viam works with any hardware and has a modern architecture, easy developer APIs, cloud connectivity and tools, and enterprise-grade security to give even lean teams the power to launch and scale their robotics business.

Viam believes making robotics more accessible will help attract talent and investment to the industry so that more people can start working with robots to build products and services that improve our world. Follow @viamrobotics on all social platforms and sign up to learn more at [Viam.com](http://viam.com/).

Additional thanks to our event supporters Mevo (www.mevo.com), and informal (www.informal.cc), and to YOU for your interest in supporting and growing the robotics community in New York.

Agenda:
6:00-6:30 - Meet & Greet / Networking

6:30-6:35 - Introduction & Welcome

6:35-7:00 - Andy Krassowski, Field Application Engineer, RTI
The RTI mission is to enable a new generation of intelligent distributed systems, boldly seeking to transform entire industries. RTI seeks applications that promote a sustainable, safe, green and healthy planet. RTI Connext is the first intelligent connectivity framework designed to control, monitor, secure and optimize demanding distributed systems.
Andy will show how the RTI Connext software framework works with ROS 2 and makes it possible to design and deploy intelligent real-world systems in demanding environments.

7:05-7:30 - Eliot Horowitz, CEO & Founder, Viam Robotics
Eliot co-founded MongoDB where he wrote the core code base for the pioneering database, and built out the engineering and product teams for 13 years as CTO.
Eliot founded Viam with the belief that it shouldn’t be hard to turn a cool idea into a functioning robot; that it should be way easier than it is to launch a robotics startup and get your proof of concept to market; that robotics should be able to easily take advantage of all the benefits of cloud connectivity, just like the rest of the tech ecosystem.
The team at Viam, feel that there should be more investment in the industry, and more builders, creators and problem-solvers turning to robotics to launch products and services that improve our world. Eliot will demo the Viam platform and explain how the platform will help with making robotics easier and more connected.

7:30-7:40 - Closing remarks, Lightning Talks*, community announcements, networking

7:40-8:00 - Hardware Demos
Interact with and experience the Viam and RTI software with robots and other hardware.

Food and Drinks to be provided.

*Lightning Talks allow anyone to present 1 slide and speak on stage for 2 minutes. Slides must be provided in advance as a PDF or Google Slide and emailed to nycrobots@gmail.com.
