Functional Error Handling by Long Cao
There are many ways to approach error handling in Scala, some of which will look more familiar to those coming from Java backgrounds, and some that are more familiar to those coming from the FP side. In this talk, we'll explore refactoring your error handling code from Java-like Scala to a more functional style. We'll also take a brief look at some of the already existing constructs for functional error handling in the Scala ecosystem.
Building interactive audience analytics with Spark by Eugene Zhulenev
At Collective we have huge amount of data, and we need to build reports from it, and at our scale even simple event counting can become a problem. This talk discusses our experience of using Spark together with approximate counters (HyperLogLog) to build an interactive audience analytics application. We are running our Spark cluster on Yarn, keeping hundreds of gigabytes in memory and serving our requests with very low latency.
