Sorry for the brief hiatus folks - I was out with a (non-running) back injury but I'm now back on my feet and building up my mileage. And with that, it's time for another Palisades trail run! This run will start at the bus station, go over the bridge, up the Palisades Long Path and back. I’ll be running at a 10-12 minute/mile pace and aiming for the Greenbrook Sanctuary (13 miles round-trip from the bus station). Every pace and distance is welcome, but be prepared to run on your own if you can't find someone who matches yours. Other notable turn-around points include the State Line Cafe (25 miles round-trip), the Park Headquarters (19 miles round-trip), Alpine Lookout (16 miles round-trip), and the Rockefeller Lookout (10 miles round-trip). If you would like to meet up with us on the New Jersey side, find us at the trail start just over the pedestrian bridge at 10:20am. Please indicate this in your RSVP. Note that if you turn around before the Park Headquarters, you might be looking at up to 13 miles between water sources. Please make sure you plan your hydration accordingly! During this event, you will have a rare opportunity to view the world's largest free-flying American flag (http://www.panynj.gov/bridges-tunnels/gwb-facts-info.html), which hangs from the George Washington Bridge on select holidays. Note that the George Washington Bridge pedestrian path sometimes closes in inclement weather. If the weather is dicey, please check the Port Authority website (http://www.panynj.gov/alerts-advisories/advisories-george-washington-bridge.html) or Twitter feed (https://twitter.com/PANYNJ_GWBWalk) to confirm that the path is open. If it is closed, I will notify the attendees and possibly move the event to Van Cortlandt Park. (NJ folks still welcome to run the Long Path!) Useful wayfinding information: • Here’s a map of the trail (http://www.njpalisades.org/pdfs/map.pdf). The Long Path is marked “A” on the map and is marked with aqua blazes. Please familiarize yourself with the trail map before coming to the run. • Here's a list of landmarks (http://www.nynjtc.org/book/1-george-washington-bridge-nynj-state-line) along with their distance from the bus station. • Here's a Google Map (http://goo.gl/maps/6nhCZ) that shows the trail along with several points of interest, including restrooms and places to get water. This map is approximate - do not rely on it for navigation! We are now accepting member contributions to help defray our Meetup costs ($180/year). Once contributions hit $180 in a year, contributions will be disabled. Go to https://secure.meetup.com/New-York-Trail-Ultrarunning/contribute/ to contribute! As always, please view the group's About page (http://www.meetup.com/New-York-Trail-Ultrarunning/about/) and make sure you understand your responsibilities as an event participant.
