New York Trail & Ultra Running Pages

Looking for people who enjoy running trails of any distance in the NY metro area and also for those who love running long distances! The purpose of meetup is to bring people together. We encourage people to lead runs and show off the trails and other lesser known routes around NYC. Let's stop paying high prices for commercial-cookie cutter road races and lets start exploring!

Responsibility of all runners: (YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU)
Join these runs only at your own risk. The run leader and those connected to this group and this website may not be held responsible for the safety or well-being of anyone or their pets who chooses to join these runs. By going with us, you agree to research the trip, send the organizer or others questions as necessary. On the trail, we all care for each other as friends, not as guides or leaders or agents – if you sign up to come, you agree to take primary responsibility for yourself. There are no “liability waivers” or other written agreements to sign. By signing up you pledge to agree not to hold anyone responsible if something somehow goes wrong. Trail runs are usually in areas where there are no services such as food and water so please come prepared.

THE GROUP LEADS; THE ORGANIZER ORGANIZES. We do not have "trip leaders." There is, however, always an organizer who gives out as much trip event information as possible and practicable on the website event post prior to an event. Nothing replaces the collective wisdom of the group ... especially out there in the wilderness. We work hard to strengthen our post information and advice to ensure our trip groups are matched for our runs (trip organizers, make sure you post expected pace per mile of runs and runners please only attend meetups where you are confident you could match to the posted pace per mile) and that everyone in the group are ready mentally or physically for the run and that everyone has all the facts before the event. As a member you can do your part -- read the post carefully prior to your attendance! If you have questions, suggestions or comments ... email them to your organizer well beforehand. We also encourage event organizers to post info about where participants can obtain a map of the planned trail to run.

• WAITS AT TRAIL JUNCTIONS: The group decides where and when to wait up for those behind -- but no one joining us should always count on that -- it's easy for trail junctions to be overlooked. By going with us, you agree to research the trip on your own, know where we are going and how to get back, even if for some unanticipated reason you may wind up having to do that by yourself. DECIDE TO TURN AROUND? That's fine, and you are on your own getting back -- the group will assume you know the way. Please let the organizer know if you decide to turn around.

Runners MUST BRING: appropriate amount of water, food, and appropriate clothing / gear for the weather. We also encourage everyone to bring a map of the trail we are running. A GPS device would also be a great thing to have but not required.
We practice Leave No Trace: outdoor skills and ethics --- protect our resources.

We strongly encourage all hikers to bring along identification, medical insurance card and emergency contact names and phone numbers.
