Implement a Kegbot (again)

OK. We learned a lot last time. Lets try again. I'm going to soldier the parts together before we get there, unless somebody is a genius with that. Just worried about injuries and stank.

Last time I had to "approve" your rsvp, but I'm not really good at keeping up on things, so I'll just open it up.

Please, read this closely. You must. MUST!!! Be a coder of some type. If you are looking for Android developers, have an app idea, etc, you'll feel very weird, and nobody will talk to you. I promise.

If you're a newbie but really want to learn, come by. That's cool. if you're all newbies, it'll be bad. Please fill out your skills and be honest. I may need to adjust the attendance, and if so, I'll apologize profusely, but I doubt I'll need to do that.

Don't let me scare you off. It'll be fun. Good beer. Fun hack. Sign up.

Quick update from the event. The EE-related attendees figured out that we didn't need the soldiered board at all for just hooking up the flow sensor. By the end of the night, the flow sensor was hooked into the arduino, and we were getting data! Might have a mini-session soon just to plug in the sensor to be beer line and watch data flow through (possibly Friday, possibly not). In any case, now that the flow measurement is in software-land, I think getting that all hooked up should move pretty fast.

Good showing for all involved. Next up is the stopper valve, rfid, etc.

Sorry I can't make it, IT problems don't stop for any of us. Will try to make the next one.

Don't you need one relay for the flow valve?

I might just swing by to see the state of the hardware.

Sounds like you only need the relay(s) if you want the solenoid (flow) valve(s). The flow meter doesn't need it.

Yup, looked at the docs again, the flow meter is delivering pulses and you are just counting those.

hmm, i am a bit jealous that you do all hardware things by yourself.. so i will try to come

Far from "done". I am pretty confused at this point with how the flow meter connects to the board.

As a newbie, I think I'm going to finish the android tutorial instead. Thanks for organizing, Kevin. Hope to come to the next one.

I'm not sure we need any relays, looking at the docs. To be clear, its confusing for sure, but that's what I think. I guess I'll be here tinkering with it if anybody wants to come. Thoughts?

I don't think I can make it to the meetup, but I did have a quick look at the documentation. It's possible the kegboard will operate with just one relay, since it says "up to four relays" can be attached" (the kegboard functional blocks section) , and "All features are optional: Kegboard’s firmware will operate correctly even if you exclude parts for a certain feature, so you can save on cost by only building what you want.".

Looks like a cancel. Will post new date soon.

Bad news. We're short on one of the electronic components. Almost finished with the board, http://pic.twitter.com/GZUkQQqSI3, but need some relays. If anybody knows where to get 3 of these today, we can do this: http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/G5SB-14%20DC5/Z1640-ND/643075. Otherwise, we'll need to delay (for relay).

Missed the Mouser/Digikey next day shipping cutoff. There are a couple places I'll check in the AM. See how it goes.

OK. Updates. I ALMOST have everything. If the universe was fair, I would've found out early on that I was missing parts. As it happened, I soldiered the entire board, and was on pretty much the last step, and realized I needed 4, but only have 1. See "Step 10: Relay Block"

    https://kegbot.org/docs/kegboard-build/kegboard-assembly/

Back when I was kid, Radio Shack would probably have that, but now, unless we can yank it out of a cell phone, they probably don't. Anybody have a lead on that?

Also, anybody who's way more Electrical Engineer-y than me who thinks we can use just one for limited functionality? We only have hardware for one line, and only the flow meter not valve. I assume we need all 4.

This is crunch time. After spending several hours doing this, I'd really like to be able to hook this up tomorrow. Grr. The part.

OK. I'm going to roll up the sleeves tonight and attempt to soldier the board. See how it goes. If it doesn't work out, I'll send out an update late tonight. Cross fingers.

I have soldering nothing yet, but as I had planned on spending the whole weekend wrestling with ffmpeg, and it looks like I've already possibly sorted the issue out, I may have an update.
