Let's go for a fun 9 mile hike for Christmas Day and then get dinner after.

The Plan
- Meet at Grand Central at 9:30am on Christmas Day. Aim for 9:30 so if you get delayed you can still make the train!
- Catch the 09h56 train to Cold Spring
- Arrive at 11h16 in Cold Spring
- Get dinner in Beacon at around 17h30

The hike
- We will hike from Cold Spring to Beacon via Beacon Tower
- We will walk towards the Cornish Trail from the train station. If you are driving park at the train station parking lot and you can catch the train back in Beacon to Cold Spring.
- Route: Cornish Trail to Undercliff to Breakneck all the way to the fire tower. We will hang out there for half an hour and then head down to Beacon via the Casino trail.
- This is a 9 mile hike about 5 hours long.
- The level of this depends on your fitness, if you are super fit this is a super easy hike if you are not then this might be a bit challenging.

What to bring?

I am not sure what the weather will be like that day but if it is cold layer up. Bring hat and gloves. Layers is key to not being soaking wet in the winter. Don't bring a thick coat. Bring layers of clothing.

Bring a headlamp just in case. Sunset is early. We should be done before sunset but just in case bring a headlamp.

Traction might or might not be needed. If you have microspikes or some other traction bring them just in case. If it turns out of the be a warm weather day then this will be a moot point. If I hear that it is super icy then I will ask everyone to bring microspikes. I have a few extra pairs so ask me to bring you one if you don't have. You can buy microspikes at REI and they are super useful for winter hiking.

Bring lunch with you. 1L of water. If it is cold and you drink maybe whiskey also. Some people bring hot chocolate or tea in a thermos in the winter. Up to you.

Dinner in Beacon

There are a few restaurants open on Christmas Day so we will pick one when we are done with the hike, It is a 20 minute walk from the trailhead to downtown Beacon.

I will set up a WhatsApp chat a day before the hike so we can communicate before, during and after that chat plus share pictures in there.
