What to expect on Cold Spring to Beacon

​This trail takes you on a journey through varied landscapes, starting near the historic Cornish Estate Ruins (North Gate), where you can explore remnants of a bygone era. As you ascend, you'll encounter natural features like a Small Waterfall and gain impressive vistas, including a View of Lake Surprise. The climb culminates at South Beacon Mountain and its Firetower, offering expansive views of the Hudson River and surrounding peaks. The descent then leads you past the Ruins of the Mount Beacon Incline Railway Powerhouse before reaching Mount Beacon Park, providing a mix of natural beauty and fascinating history. Expect sustained uphill sections, making this route best suited for hikers with good stamina.

## ​Planning your visit

​Given its point-to-point nature, the Cold Spring to Beacon hike is ideally suited for those utilizing public transport, with train stations conveniently located at both ends of the route. Parking can be limited in Cold Spring, so arriving early or taking the train is often the best strategy.
