Manhattan Valley and Morningside Heights Walking Tour

Details
Description: The organizer will provide much commentary. We’ll look at the architectural style and social history of buildings in the neighborhoods of Manhattan Valley and Morningside Heights. We’ll first explore the seldom-travelled Manhattan Valley Historic District and then go to Morningside Heights, which has a number of prominent institutions. Along the way, we’ll discuss urban planner Robert Moses, pioneer architects, a history of Morningside Park, and architectural salvage in the 19th and early 20th centuries. And we’ll walk on the shady side of the street as much as possible.
Cost: The cost of this event is $2 per person, which is paid at the start of the walk. This is for the organizer’s Meetup preparation costs and fees.
Meeting Time/Place: The meeting time is (after lunch) at 1:30 PM. The meeting place is in front of the entrance to Whole Foods Market, 808 Columbus Avenue, which is located at about 98th Street. Before the walk, restrooms are available in Whole Foods.
Transportation: Take the 1, 2, or 3 subway train to 96th Street and then walk east about 4 blocks to Whole Foods.
Finishing Time/Place: The walk will finish about 4:30 PM in Morningside Heights at 122nd Street and Riverside Drive.
Rainy weather cancels this walk. Therefore, if it is raining, or the forecast is for rainy conditions, I will post a cancellation notice early Saturday morning. If I don't post a cancellation notice, I plan to be at the meeting place.
If you are registered for this walk and can't attend, please change your RSVP online. Thank you.
